AP photoWide receiver Donte Stallworth is now back on the Browns roster.FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Now that the Super Bowl is over, receiver Donte Stallworth has been technically returned to the Cleveland Browns roster.
The team is now on the clock to act on his status.
A league source told The Plain Dealer this morning that there will be no formal league announcement about Stallworth. The source said that Stallworth and the Browns were informed about a month ago that his suspension was lifted.
Stallworth pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter for driving drunk after he struck and killed a man with
his black 2005 Bentley early March 14, 2009. He reached a confidential financial settlement with
the family of 59-year-old Mario Reyes, preventing the family
from filing a civil suit.
Stallworth was also sentenced to two years of
house arrest, eight years on probation, 1,000 hours of community
service and a lifetime driver's license suspension that could be eased
after five years. He must also undergo drug and alcohol testing.
The Browns will release Stallworth rather than pay him a $1 million roster bonus due him on March 20, another source has informed The Plain Dealer.
Until the Browns make a decision on Stallworth, he is free to use their facility. David Cornwell, one of Stallworth's advisers and attorneys, said Friday that he was unaware if Stallworth intended to visit the team.
The Browns have had no comment on Stallworth.

Chesterland, Ohio - Dave Bors is leaving West Geauga after three seasons, and is in line to be Riverside's next football coach.
"That's going to be our recommendation [to the school board on Feb. 23]," Riverside Athletic Director George Bellios said. "I can't say anything else until the board acts."
Bors was a longtime defensive assistant at Chardon until taking the head coaching job at West Geauga in 2007. The Wolverines were 6-4 his first two seasons. Last year, Bors abandoned a pass-oriented offense and West Geauga became one of the few teams in Ohio running the triple-option. West Geauga went 9-2. It lost, 14-7, to unbeaten Chagrin Falls, and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Ashland.
Bors will replace Ryan Wolf, whom Bellios said chose to step down. Wolf was promoted from defensive coordinator in 2008 and his teams were 7-3 and 5-5.
