Is Ohio State still alive? The Seantrel Henderson saga isn’t quite over
The nation's top offensive line recruit chose USC but won't sign until after an NCAA hearing in two weeks, which leaves the door cracked open for the Buckeyes.
APSeantrel Henderson.
Hold off on that recruiting withdrawal. It may not be over yet.
Offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson chose USC over Ohio State on Wednesday, but unlike most college football recruits, the top-rated lineman in the Class of 2010 did not sign his National Letter of Intent.
The New York Times, after shadowing the Henderson family during the final week before Signing Day, is reporting that Henderson will wait until after an NCAA hearing from Feb. 19-21 before signing with the Trojans. The USC program is facing possible sanctions and that hearing will give a better sense of what might be ahead.
Of course, Henderson picked USC knowing this was the case, with new coach Lake Kiffin certainly doing his best to assure the Hendersons that the possible sanctions won't be too serious. But in announcing his choice, Henderson said Ohio State finished No. 2, so the Buckeyes may be on call if the USC hearing scares Henderson off. Sean Henderson, Seantrel's father, was quoted by the Times as calling Jim Tressel's recruiting pitch long-winded and a little boring, so perhaps Ohio State's coach has some time to prove he's a little more, uh, exciting.
Players don't have to sign until April 1, as Ohio State fans who followed the Terrelle Pryor saga into March two years ago know very well. Without Henderson, Ohio State signed a class of 18 players Wednesday.
Browns Comment of the Day: Please don’t draft Tim Tebow
"To the new Browns management: please don't draft Tebow. We've already got a couple of QBs to wear baseball caps and hold clipboards on the sidelines, and it would be stupid to waste a high draft pick on a special teams player and third string tight end." - dunlopreggie
